The clothing we wear not only dictates how we feel, but also defines the immediate environment around us. Our clothing is in direct contact with our skin and our senses for as long as we wear it. Sports and athletic clothing has long since moved from the trends of using wool, to a more synthetic man made fabric line.

The problem with the synthetic clothing is that it is not very comfortable after one has sweated in it. Wool allows for the moisture from the sweat to be moved away from the skin and keep the wearer dry throughout the day. this makes wool the ideal fabric to use for long bike races, jogging, hiking, and climbing.

The querry remains as to how to keep your wool tees, sweaters, and jerseys looking good and retaining their shape after multiple washings. The key is in how one washes the clothing. In a rougher sense, wool can be thrown into the washer with whatever detergent one has. Keep the water at warm or cooler, and do not over dry or dry on hot cycles.

Washing wool in the rough manner will cause it to shrink as much as half a size. While the rough way of washing wool is not the most suggested means to care for and keep it clean, if one is in a hurry or doesn’t regard it that much, the rough way will suffice.

In terms of give tender care to your wool athletic wear, use cold water. This will not fade it, shrink it, or cause disfigurement. Also try to use a non toxic, earth friendly, very gentle soap for cleansing the garment. It is also highly recommended that one does not put wool in a dryer. Air drying while lying it flat is the best way to dry your wool and it will prevent it from disfigurement.
